Application and Registration
General information
The MSc programme Chemistry is a consecutive Master's programme. Therefore, it connects directly to the Bachelor's programme Chemie at the University of Bonn and builds on the knowledge and skills taught therein. Thus it is necessary for successful studying in the Master's programme that the contents of the Bachelor's programme studied by applicants extensively match those of the Bachelor's programme of the University of Bonn.
In respect thereof, the admission procedure serves above all the assessment of the eligibility of the applicants for the Master's programme Chemistry at the University of Bonn. According to the Higher Education Act of NRW, the only basis for the admission is the first professional qualification (generally the preceding Bachelor's degree). Additional qualifications may not be allowed for.
Requirements
Admission to the Master's programme Chemistry is bound to the following requirements:
- a qualified first professional degree (usually a BSc degree)
- proof of sufficient English language proficiency (min. B2 (CEFR)) (online language tests are not accepted)
The qualification of the preceding degree consists of the following characteristics:
- average grade of the degree at least 2.9 (German system; grades from other systems will be converted by the "Bavarian formula")
- successfully studied modules in the field "Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)
- successfully studied modules in the field "Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)
- successfully studied modules in the field "Physical and Theoretical Chemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)
Graduates of the following programmes usually do not fulfil these requirements (3 x 25 CP):
BSc Pharmaceutical Sciences/Technology/...
BSc Chemical Engineering/Applied Chemistry

Admission restrictions
Currently, there are no admission restrictions for the Master's programme Chemistry. Applicants that fulfil the requirements will get an admission.
Application deadlines
The deadline for application for the forthcoming winter semester ends at 1 July, for the forthcoming summer semester at 15 January.
Application procedure
You can apply for admission via the application portal (https://application.uni-bonn.de) of the university. The application deadline for admission to the winter semester 2022/23 is over. Application for admission to the summer semester 2023 will be available from December 1st, 2022, to January 15th, 2023.
The selection committee will examine the applications in January/July. At the end of January/July the applicants will receive a notification on the admission or refusal by the examination board.
Registration
The admitted applicants will get information on the registration with the notification on the admission. For the registration at the registrar's office all documents that were handed in as copies during the application process must be presented in original.
